ABOUT AMERICAN POND HOCKEY

Outdoor Hockey, Reimagined in the Heart of Minocqua

American Pond Hockey is the premier outdoor hockey tournament for adults — an authentic celebration of winter, camaraderie, and competition held on frozen Lake Minocqua.

Founded in 2022, American Pond Hockey was born when a group of Min-Aqua Bats alumni returned home from an outdoor hockey tournament inspired by the magic of playing outside under open skies. They saw the Aqua Bowl — a beloved 75-year old landmark on the Island City of Minocqua, Wisconsin — as the perfect venue to bring that experience to life locally. What started as a vision to combine the excitement of pond hockey with world-class service and a perfect venue, quickly became one of the most anticipated winter events in the Northwoods.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple:

To host the ultimate outdoor hockey tournament in downtown Minocqua, strengthen winter tourism, and provide the community with a valuable resource for engagement all winter long.

Every February, we bring together teams from across the Midwest and beyond to experience outdoor hockey the way it was meant to be played — surrounded by cheering fans, local businesses, and the frozen beauty of northern Wisconsin.

Community Impact

American Pond Hockey is more than a tournament — it’s a community movement.

We’re proud to collaborate with local businesses, non-profits, and residents to create an event that benefits everyone. Our efforts go beyond the weekend tournament:

  • Public Skating Initiative — maintaining a safe, welcoming outdoor skating space for all ages throughout the winter.

  • Local Partnerships — from Rocky Reef Brewing Co. to Minocqua Sauna, we work with area businesses to promote tourism and year-round recreation.

  • Community Fundraising — each season, proceeds and platform space support local non-profits, youth sports, and volunteer organizations.

Through these collaborations, American Pond Hockey has become both a winter tradition and a catalyst for positive local impact — a reminder that the coldest months can bring the community closer together.

Experience Minocqua in Winter

When the lakes freeze, Minocqua comes alive. Players, fans and snowmobilers fill local restaurants, breweries, and lodges, strengthening the region’s economy during its quietest months. Whether you’re skating under the lights, watching from the shoreline restaurants, or warming up in a local sauna, you’re part of something special — a true Northwoods winter celebration.
